This may seem like a far-fetched idea-with so many obligations, to-do lists and what seems like endless repetition of what needs to be done. I was asked recently to come up with a theme that expressed my experiences and one that could be shared with a crowd of others. When it comes to Voiceovers, I am having the Time of My Life! so how did this come about?
- The three letter word we think we can’t have/don’t deserve to have is FUN. Life can be super-serious most days so I make a conscious decision to do something regularly (each day if possible) that ensures I will have FUN-…it needs to be spontaneous and I give myself permission to enjoy it fully.
- Smile a lot! If you get into the habit of smiling a lot, it starts to feel natural and becomes a way of being. It has been proven it tricks the subconscious into feeling life is safe and good. I do this especially when I am doing voiceovers as it comes across in the delivery. I follow this even when I am feeling lousy-it makes me feel so much better and hopefully others too. On good days, it feels like the Time of My life is growing and expanding-like my heart is smiling too! Smiling most often leads to laughter-that’s one of my guages for knowing I am having the Time of My Life!
- Being un-selfconscious: This can be quite a challenge as we tend to put so much energy into wondering what others think or even what we think of ourselves! I just can’t be creative with Voiceovers if I am feeling self-conscious-it feels contracted. To stay in the flow of things, I immerse myself completely in what I am doing rather than ‘watching’ myself and worrying about the outcome. It often means letting go of inhibitions-trying it in small ways, then feeling ok about it, allows me to risk letting go more and more. It’s so energising!
- Say yes! this is important to feeling like I am having the Time of My Life. Grabbing opportunities with both hands when they come up and saying yes allows me to feel involved in life-Of course it is important to keep a balance and measure up how much we can say yes to but often, it’s because we think we can’t for whatever reason that we shy away. Saying yes! means giving things a go, trying new things and giving ourselves fully to them and seeing what happens. It creates a richness, variety and abundance in my experiences.
- Gratitude. So many people talk about gratitude and that’s because it works. It’s really important for me to stand back often and reflect on how much enjoyment, upliftment, fun, sharing and delight I receive and expressing gratitude for it all. It makes each day, event, connection count-it gives everything meaning.
Having the Time of My Life definitely needs to be shared-it seems to increase and expand. It makes me look forward to all that I do with enthusiasm, vitality and love.
